The Hanbury Players are a group of like-minded people with varying skills and abilities, who perform a bi-annual Pantomime in the 150-seat Memorial Hall. We performed ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ in Feb 2023. Our Pre-Covid Panto February in 2020 was Aladdin. In 2018 we performed ‘Ali Baba and the 40 Fabulous Thieves’ and in 2016 ‘Robinson Crusoe’. Looking further back, we’ve done Jack and the Beanstalk, Cindarella and Dick Whittington.
Each Panto involves all age groups from children to pensioners, some of who sing, some of whom dance and many of whom act the various parts in the performance. We are lucky to have an excellent reputation in the local area and usually give 4 performances during the February half-term holiday.
Rehearsals take place in the Memorial Hall on Fridays at 7.30pm and also on Sundays at 2.00pm
Costumes are hired for the actors in order to give a professional look. Some of our performers also take part in productions in the Garrick Theatre in Lichfield and with the Sutton Coldfield Amateur Dramatic Society.
Our Theatrical Director is Mark Develin
In the alternative years, we provide the entertainment at a Supper/Cabaret over 2 nights, also in the Memorial Hall. The are upwards of 30 songs performed, many with dance. A skit or two helps to keep our audiences laughing.
The Hanbury Players are a non-profit making organisation, with proceeds going to local charities.
